About Village Remedies

At Village Remedies, we take a practical, results-based approach that combines integrative medicine with time-tested natural therapies. Many of our clients come to us suffering from insomnia or the effects of disturbed sleep.

By using traditional acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and real acupuncture with a thin needle, we influence the body’s structure and physiology to restore sleep cycles and encourage deeper, more restorative rest.

Our goal is to help your mind and body switch out of a state of activity and into a deep state of rest when it’s time for bed. Each acupuncture session is carefully tailored by our experienced acupuncture practitioners to support this process.

Our modern lives often throw those natural rhythms out of balance, and sometimes it can be difficult to restore them without some help. That’s where we come in!

If you want to improve your sleep and support a healthy lifestyle, book an appointment today and we’d love to help.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles into various areas of the body to trigger a therapeutic response.

Acupuncture has been practised for thousands of years. Today, it is recognised as a safe and effective form of alternative medicine and acupuncture therapy that can treat a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional health conditions.

At our Sydney acupuncture clinics in Balmain and CBD, we use a combination of distal and local acupuncture treatments such as dry needling (or “ashi” needling), motor point acupuncture and electro acupuncture to best suit each person and their condition.

Every patient is different, your practitioner will be able to determine what is most effective for you and work with you towards recovery and pain management.

Distal Acupuncture

Using points away from the affected area. For example, there are acupuncture points on the hand that indicate lower back pain. This is our preferred method as it can treat multiple internal imbalances as well as pain all at the same time.

Local Acupuncture

Needling the affected area to target the source of tension. Dry needling also falls into this category, as well as motor point acupuncture. Whilst effective, it can sometimes cause irritation which is why distal acupuncture is helpful.

Acupuncture is recognised as a safe therapeutic option when conducted by experienced, licensed acupuncturists using a thin needle. Our practitioners at Village Remedies follow strict safety protocols and are fully registered with the Chinese Medicine Board, making real acupuncture treatments a reliable choice for those exploring alternative or complementary health solutions, including natural therapy.

The number of acupuncture sessions needed varies based on individual health conditions and responses to treatment. Some clients with chronic pain or other concerns experience significant benefits after just a few sessions, while others may require more.

We continuously evaluate your progress and tailor your treatment plan accordingly to achieve the best results.

Preparing for your acupuncture treatment includes wearing comfortable clothes, eating a light meal beforehand, and avoiding stimulants like caffeine and alcohol.

Being hydrated and relaxed can also enhance your acupuncture therapy experience. In some cases, we may recommend laser acupuncture as a painless alternative or incorporate it as part of a broader integrative medicine approach.

Key Benefits Of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is widely recognised for supporting pain management through stimulation of a specific acupuncture point with fine needles. Whether you’re dealing with chronic conditions or acute discomfort, treatments by a qualified acupuncture practitioner or acupuncturist can help relieve symptoms and restore balance.

Research Insight: A systematic review of six trials examined the impact of acupuncture and moxibustion on breech presentations.

Findings: Among those receiving treatment, only 34% showed breech positions, significantly lower than the untreated group at 66% (van den Berg et al., 2008).

Acupuncture is known to reduce stress and improve mental clarity. Using acupuncture needles to activate key acupuncture points, the therapy can promote nervous system regulation and reduce symptoms associated with anxiety and burnout.

Study Highlight: A meta-analysis of thirteen studies evaluated acupressure’s role in labour and birth outcomes.

Labour Duration: The active labour phase was reduced by an average of 1.3 hours (Makvandi et al., 2016).

Study Focus: A trial involving 386 pregnant women experiencing pelvic girdle pain showed that acupuncture outperformed standard treatments.

Results: The acupuncture group had significantly reduced morning and evening pain levels compared to those who received stabilising exercises, education, and a pelvic belt (Elden et al., 2005).

Evidence: Electroacupuncture has also been shown to support cervical ripening.

Comparison: Electroacupuncture was found to be as effective as conventional medication, leading to more vaginal births and no obstetric complications (Gribel et al., 2011).

Many individuals turn to acupuncture for relief from insomnia and other sleep disorders. By calming the mind and regulating the body’s natural rhythms, acupuncture promotes healthier sleep patterns, leading to more restful nights and energised days.

Targeting back pain and tension headaches is a common focus in many acupuncture sessions. A single needle can stimulate responses in the body that improve circulation and reduce muscle tension.

Study Comparison: A study comparing acupuncture and physiotherapy for lower back and pelvic pain during pregnancy.

Outcome: Those in the acupuncture group were 1.8 times more improved with morning pain and 2.7 times more improved with evening pain compared to the physiotherapy group (Wedenberg et al., 2000).
